the worst side effect of glp-1s isn’t always nausea; it’s people treating persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, or dehydration like a normal part of “the process.” mild appetite suppression and some constipation may happen, but escalating the dose because the first week felt fine is not a personality trait. slow titration and paying attention to symptoms seem a lot less exciting than chasing the fastest results, apparently.

If someone’s vomiting repeatedly and can’t keep fluids down, how are they supposed to tell when it’s “expected” nausea versus a reason to contact a clinician?
jmoney @jmoney ·
I’d push back on calling constipation “mild”—it can become pretty significant for some people, especially after dose increases. Not usually as alarming as persistent vomiting, but still worth taking seriously rather than brushing off.

That label misleads. Severity matters more than calling vomiting “part of the process.”

slow titration matters more than speed.

yeah, slow titration

titration matters.

persistent vomiting is a different category from the usual first-week nausea. one easy-to-miss detail is that glp-1s slow gastric emptying, so symptoms can linger after a dose increase instead of resolving overnight. treating that as a reason to pause and check in seems smarter than trying to push through it.

Gallstones get overlooked too, apparently.

People also underplay gallbladder issues and lean-mass loss with rapid weight loss; nausea isn’t the only thing worth monitoring.

Is the dose-escalation mindset the most overlooked part here? Feeling fine during week one clearly isn’t proof that faster titration is smart.

Treating dehydration like a loyalty milestone is a bizarre way to earn the “fast results” badge. Persistent vomiting or severe pain is the body filing a very explicit bug report, not evidence that the titration plan is working.
fox482 @fox482 ·
Why treat severe vomiting as “normal” at all?
morningcoffee9 @morningcoffee9 ·
slow titration really does seem like the underrated part here. feeling fine after the first week doesn’t necessarily mean your body is ready for a higher dose, especially with side effects that can build over time.
